Kenya Premier League and National Super League sides had an easy time past lower tier clubs in day two of the GoTV Shield round of 64 played today, June 25, 2017

Gor Mahia, Sofapaka, Nakumatt, Western Stima and Ulinzi Stars emerged victors. Nakuru All Stars, however, got a 3-0 hiding at the hands of Eldoret Youth at the Kipchoge Keino Stadium in Eldoret

Leysa FC

Thika-based Butterfly capitalized on a goalkeeping mishap to edge out Leysa 2-1 at the Thika Sub County Stadium. Butterfly showed winning intent early in the match with a goal in the second minute by Jeremy Wakhungu. Leysa, however, restored parity at the start of the second half through former AFC Leopards forward Oscar Kadenge. Butterfly then got the winner with four minutes to play through a freekick by Zomin Ange. Leysa’s surge for an equalizer were dealt a blow when Griffin Somi was red carded in an off the ball incident, Butterfly proceeding to the round of 32

Gor Mahia

Later at 4.15 pm, Gor Mahia took to the pitch against Nairobi Regional League side Nairobi Water. The latter got an early goal, but it did not last, Gor Mahia getting an equalizer through Meddie Kagere. The Premier League side then got a second through George Odhiambo to make it 2-1 at half time. In the second half, Gor Mahia bossed proceedings in no hurry for a third, but it would eventually come from Wellington Ochieng with five minutes to play

Sofapaka and Ulinzi Stars also got through to the round of 32 at the expense of Silver Bullets and Wajiji respectively. Both matches were played at the Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos. Sofapaka scored nine through four by Umaru Kasumba, and a goal apiece by Hansel Ochieng, Rodgers Aloro, Ali Feni, Benard Mangoli and Meshack Karani. Gabriel Wandera managed an equalizer for Silver Bullets

Ushuru

Ushuru also got through with a 4-0 win over Avant Garde at the Camp Toyoyo grounds. Ushuru’s goals were scored by Oscar Mbugua and Andrew Murunga and a brace by Barrack Odhiambo. The other match played at the same venue saw Wazito edge out Peter Kenneth United 4-0. Returning Bob Mugalia and Zachary Gathu were on the scoresheet, with Pistone Mutamba grabbing a brace

Nzoia United also progressed with a 2-0 win over Bondo United at the Moi Stadium in Kisumu while Vihiga United spanked Nakuru based Elim FC 7-0 at the Afraha Stadium. Nakumatt thrashed Bigot FC 8-2 at the same venue
