Kenyan Premier League sides Tusker and Ulinzi Stars will contest the final of the domestic Cup – GoTV Shield on Thursday 20 October 2016 after semifinal wins on Saturday 1 October.
Tusker booked their place first after a 1-0 win over National Super League (NSL) side KCB at Afraha Stadium and were later joined by Ulinzi who beat another NSL side Kariobangi Sharks 4-1 at the same venue. A Noah Wafula goal in the 47th minute sent Tusker through while a goal from Oscar Wamalwa and hat trick from John Makwata earned Ulinzi a place in the final. Sharks responded to the four with a late consolation from Steven Odhiambo.
The finals and 3rd place play-off are scheduled to be played on Thursday, October 20, 2016, at the Nyayo National Stadium. In the third place playoff, KCB plays Kariobangi Sharks at 11am, with Tusker taking on Ulinzi Stars in the finals at 3pm.
Ulinzi’s John Makwatta and Western Stima’s Kennedy Otieno are the tournament’s top scorers with seven goals each.
The winner of the tournament will represent Kenya in the CAF Confederation Cup scheduled to begin on February 10, 2017.
