The Kenya Women National Team, Harambee Starlets, lost 3-2 to Malawi in the first leg of their 2020 Olympics Qualifier played on Wednesday, August 28, 2019, at the Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre, Malawi.

Starlets fell to a 13th-minute free-kick by Madina Nguluwe which flew high past Starlets keeper Annette Kundu.

Yet another freekick from long range by midfielder Cynthia Shilwatso saw the Kenyan girls turn the match around but a quick-fire brace by Tabitha Chawinga in the 35th and 39th minutes saw the hosts head back to their dressing room in a 3-1 advantage.

Second half pressure by the guests saw Kenya pick up a late goal by Corazone Aquino from very close range, which they will now bank on ahead of the second leg set to be played on Sunday, September 1, 2019, at the Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos behind closed doors.

The team is set to jet back on Thursday and will head straight back to camp ahead of Sunday’s match.

Should Starlets pass the Malawi test, they will have either of Ghana or Gabon in the third round of the qualifiers.
