Harambee Stars will face Iraq in a FIFA International friendly match slated for Thursday, October 5, 2017, at the Basra International Stadium in Basra, Iraq.
Coach Stanley Okumbi oversaw the team’s last training session at the match venue, expressing contentment with his charges’ preparations ahead of the match.
“We have had two training sessions since we arrived, the lads are settling in well. say for a few injuries,” said Stars Coach Stanley Okumbi.
“Unfortunately we will miss the services of Eric Ouma who is injured, while we will have to wait and see whether Masud, who has undergone some tests will be fit for the match,” added the Coach.
Earlier, the tactician had pointed out that the friendly would be beneficial to the team saying “I believe the match will provide the much needed exposure to our players.
“As you are aware, this is the first time most of these players are playing in this part of the world, which in itself is a good thing, as it gives us an opportunity to assess them in a different environment against a team with a different style of play and mentality,” explained Okumbi
Kenya will look to build up on a 1-1 draw away to Mozambique on September 2, 2017. Eric Johanna scored in the 85th minute from long range to salvage a draw for the guests.
Iraq, meanwhile, will be playing their second match on home soil after FIFA lifted a four-year ban on the country’s stadia. Iraq edged out Jordan 1-0 in June this year, the first match on home soil after the ban.
