Officials from the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) and the Kenyan Premier League (KPL) have agreed on an 18-team top tier league during a Joint Executive Committee (JEC) meeting facilitated by John Ohaga, the chair of the Sports Disputes Tribunal on Thursday 26 Jan 2017.

The decision reached finally ends the debate on expansion of the top league that has been constituted by 16 teams since the 2006 season.

Both parties, through their finance teams, have to sit down on Friday 27 January and agree on figures involved. The meeting is set to determine how much is owed to the Federation as Affiliation Fees and how much the Federation needs to top up to accommodate the two extra teams.
