The Kenya U20 National team stepped up preparations for the CECAFA U20 Championships with a  3-1 win against Sudan on Monday, November 2, 2020, at the MISC Kasarani Stadium.

Rising Stars started off on the wrong foot allowing Sudan forward Nogh Hussein a goal at the 8th minute but later got aligned with the tempo of the game after Boniface Mwangemi shot a perfect free kick to Liberty’s Sellasie Otieno equalizing the scores at the 21st minute.

All attempts of both teams to stride forward past the opponent fell naught leaving for half-time with equal scores of 1-1.

Reagan Ronald’s power shot put the team forward at the 58th minute and at the 85th minute, Matthew Mwendwa’s top skills closed the scores at 3-1.

Up next is the second friendly game against Sudan on Thursday, November 5, 2020, at the MISC Kasarani stadium, before they leave for the tournament, to be played between November 22, and December 6, 2020, in Arusha, Tanzania.

The Rising Stars have been pooled in Group C of the tournament alongside Ethiopia and Sudan.

Group A is comprised of hosts Tanzania, Rwanda, Somalia, and Djibouti, while Group B will have Burundi, Eritrea, South Sudan, and Uganda.

The top teams in each of the three groups will proceed to the tournament’s semi-finals, alongside one best runner-up. The finalists, meanwhile, are set to earn an automatic slot at the Africa U20 Cup of Nations.
