AFC Leopards and Gor Mahia each booked a place in the Quarterfinals of the FKF SportPesa Shield following wins over Mwatate United and Posta Rangers respectively on Wednesday, July 25, 2018, at the MISC Kasarani.

Ingwe labored to a 2-1 win over Division One side Mwatate United in the first match of the midweek doubleheader aired LIVE on Y 254 TV.

The Leopards received a scare when John Musyoka put Mwatate in the front foot in the sixth minute following a swift counter attack. At the start of the second half, however, Ingwe’s June acquisition Eugene Mukangula, who had just come on in place of Clyde Senaji, restored parity.

Mwatate United defended resolutely, occasionally hitting their top-tier opponents on the counter, but would finally crumble when Ezekiel Odera struck from close range in stoppage time to see Ingwe through to the quarters.

Leopards will consequently face off with Kenya Police, who went past non-league side Leysa on Saturday, July 21, 2018, in Narok.

In the second match that kicked off at 4.15 pm, Gor Mahia easily strolled past Posta Rangers to book Kariobangi Sharks in the quarterfinal. The match ended 3-1.

Posta were the better side in the early exchanges, with Cavin Odongo being denied by the woodwork after a swift counter attack. Kevin Omondi would however capitalize on a mistake by Jockins Atudo to put Gor Mahia in the driving seat in the 34th minute.

Kógallo were 2-0 up in the 52nd minute when Posta Rangers goalkeeper Boniface Barasa failed to handle a cross cum shot by Kevin Omondi, parrying it into his own net. Posta would revive hopes of a comeback when Paul Odhiambo halved the deficit in the 63rd minute but it’s Samuel Onyango who made sure of progression with a third goal for Gor Mahia in the 70th minute.

Also through to the quarters is Kariobangi Sharks, Riverplate FC, Kenya Police, Ulinzi Stars, Tusker and Sofapaka, who edged past Modern Coast, Friendzone FC, Leysa FC, Vihiga United, Bungoma Super Stars and Western Stima respectively over the weekend.
