Kenya kicked off her quest for a place in the 2019 Africa U17 Cup of Nations with a 4-0 win over South Sudan in their first match of the CECAFA Region Qualifying Tournament played on Tuesday, August 14, 2018, at the Azam Sports Complex in Chamazi, Tanzania.

Keith Imbali opened the scores in the 12th minute to give Kenya a deserved 1-0 halftime lead, having dominated proceedings in the early exchanges. Influential forward Mathew Mwendwa would double Kenya’s advantage in the 61st minute after outpacing his South Sudan marker on the left flank. Telvin Maina scored the third from close range in the 76th minute to further dent South Sudan’s hopes of a comeback before Nicholas Omondi made the points safer with a fourth goal from the spot in stoppage time after Richdonald Bolo was infringed in the box.

Up next for Kenya in Group B, which also has Uganda and Ethiopia, is a match against Djibouti on Friday, August 17, 2018, at the Azam Sports Complex.
