NSL Review: Ushuru, KCB win as Vihiga United lose footing

Promotion candidates KCB, Ushuru and Wazito FC grabbed important wins over Palos, Agro Chemical and Isibania in FKF National Super League matches played on September 30, 2017. League leaders Vihiga United lost 1-2 to Kibera Black Stars in Mumias

Ushuru made it three wins in three matches, edging out Agro Chemical 3-1 at Camp Toyoyo. Nelson Marasowe gave Ushuru the lead from the spot after Barrack Odhiambo was brought down in the box. Jackton Onjala then deflected the ball into his own net off a freekick from the right flank in the 38th minute. Forward Andrew Murunga would then head in a Fan Ngaira freekick to give Ushuru a 2-1 halftime lead. The taxmen effectively defended the slim lead in the second half before substitute Bill Oporia stretched it even further with the third goal for Ushuru in stoppage time

Nairobi City Stars

Later on, at the same venue, Nairobi City Stars ended a five-match winless streak with an emphatic 4-1 win over FC Talanta. David Agesa got City Stars on the front foot in the first minute before getting his second in the 30th minute. Agesa would then grab a hattrick four minutes later, heading in John Kamau’s cross from the left flank. FC Talanta attempted a comeback in the second half with Eric Kapaito reducing the deficit in the 57th minute, but Victor Ochieng confirmed victory for City Stars with a fourth goal in stoppage time

Wazito also dispatched Isibania 2-1 in Awendo. Samson Ndegwa and Kennedy Ayako were on target for Wazito to take them to 50 points from 26 matches

Kibera Black Stars

At the Mumias Sports Complex, league leaders Vihiga United were stunned 2-1 by visiting Kibera Black Stars. Vihiga were the first to find the back of the net through Amos Kigadi. A spirited fightback by the guests would see Henry Onyango grab a brace to slow down the league leaders. The win was the second in a row for Kibera Black Stars at the Mumias Sports Complex. Black Stars had on September 18, come from a goal down to edge out Palos 2-1

At the Thika Stadium, Nakuru All-Stars held Bidco United to a 0-0 draw while in Naivasha, promotion candidates Nairobi Stima dispatched Modern Coast Rangers 2-0. Patrick Ndwiga and Victor Ochami were on target for Stima. KCB also managed a 3-2 win away to Palos at the Moi Stadium in Kisumu. Goals by Frank Balabala, Kevin Migele and Samuel Mwangi were enough to help the Bankers catch up with league leaders Vihiga United. Alex Waiswa scored a brace for Palos

Administration Police

On Sunday, Administration Police played out a 2-2 draw with GFE 105 at Camp Toyoyo. Robert Jagero gave AP the lead in the 29th minute before Boniface Mokhekhe restored parity at the stroke of halftime. Nicholas Onyango would restore AP’s lead in the 80th minute. GFE left it late to ensure a share of the spoils when Hesbon Ochieng leveled matters with a minute left on the clock

MOSCA was also held to a 1-1 draw by Police at the Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos, in the other match played on Sunday. Samuel Muringu had given MOSCA  a first-half lead before Benjamin Megason score in the 86th minute to salvage a point for the law enforcers

Three matches will be played in midweek, Wednesday, October 4, 2017. Isibania will be up against MOSCA in Awendo while Wazito will face Nairobi City Stars at Camp Toyoyo. Nakuru Allstars will also host a wounded Vihiga United at the Afraha Stadium in Nakuru
