Kibera Back Stars held Bidco United to a barren stalemate at the Thika sub-county Stadium in one of six FKF National Super League matches played on Saturday, February 17, 2018.

The hosts, coming on the back of a morale-boosting 2-1 win in their opening match of the campaign, were in control of the opening exchanges, but couldn’t find a way through Black Stars’ defense. The first half ended 0-0.

Upon resumption, the guests looked enterprising and deservedly had a chance to go ahead in the 60th minute. Henry Onyango was brought down inside the box by Bidco goalie Charles Okeyo, only for Wilson Njuguna to sky the resultant penalty kick.

Wilson Njuguna

Wilson Njuguna skied a 60th-minute penalty kick that would have seen Kibera Black Stars run away with all three points against hosts Bidco United

Bidco seemed awoken by the near-death experience and resorted to attacking. Resolute defending by Black Stars would, however, peg back the hosts, the match ending 0-0.

Black Stars coach Godfrey Oduor opined that he would have fancied a win, but noted that a point away from home is welcome.

“We didn’t get the result we anticipated, but a point away from home is welcome,” said the coach.

“We are working towards promotion just like any other team, and any point we collect is crucial in attaining our target,” he added.

Kibera Black Stars

Bidco United’s new signing Kanamuli Kapilimba (R) was a standout performer, limiting Kibera Black Stars to only a handful of chances in front of goal

New Bidco coach Leonard Saleh, on his part, noted that competition in the NSL is high and further exuded confidence that his team will outdo last season’s performance.

“The match was tough. A draw is a fair result but we will be working to better this performance in our next match,” he said.

Competition

“In this league (NSL), no one is guaranteed promotion since the competition is very high, which is a positive thing for our players, coaches and the league at large. But we will definitely do better than (we did) last season,” he opined.
