Football Kenya Federation Nairobi County branch on Friday February 16, 2018, held an awards gala in recognition of 2017’s best performers.
The event was graced by FKF President Nick Mwendwa, Deputy President Doris Petra, Nairobi County CEC for sports Janet Muthoni Ouko, Upper Savannah MCA Stazo Omung’ala and FKF Nairobi County branch officials, among other guests.
CEC for Sports Janet Muthoni Ouko emphasised the county’s commitment in supporting football at the grassroots by working closely with the FKF leadership.
“We have undertaken the renovation of five grounds in Nairobi to FIFA International Standards. This will not only keep our youth engaged in worthwhile football activities but will also aid in raising the level of the game,” she said.
FKF President Nick Mwendwa, on his part, reaffirmed the Federation’s long term goal of developing the game from the grassroots saying; “We have a policy that will see us extend support to our branches, in line with our long term goal of raising the levels of the game from the grassroots.”
Those awarded at the gala include Phanuel Omire (Referee of the year) and Zuberi Mohammed of Equity Bank FC (Coach of the year).
Further, Creative Hands FC’s Daniel Mutinda walked home with the top scorer’s prize (Sub-County League) as did Kevin Orongo (County League) and Spitfire FC’s Salim Mohammed (Regional League).
Dandora Fulnesco scooped the Fair play team of the year gong while Creative Hands, Makadara Youth, Equity Bank and Mukuru Talent were crowned Sub-County league, County League, Regional League and Women Regional League Champions respectively.
