The senior national football team, Harambee Stars, is set to kick off preparations for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) and Africa Nations Championships (CHAN) assignments.
Coach Sébastien Migné has selected local based 25 players, 17 of whom will hold the first of their intended weekly training sessions on Tuesday, February 19, 2019, at the Kenya School of Monetary Studies Grounds starting 9 am.
Three players: Francis Kahata, Philemon Otieno and Joash Onyango, have been excused from Tuesday’s training session due to their parent club’s midweek commitment in the Kenyan Premier League.
Also excused from Tuesday’s session are Elvis Nandwa, Abdallah Hassan, Farouk Shikalo, Allan Wanga, and Benard Ochieng, who are based outside Nairobi. The five will link up with the team in the following week.
Kenya is set to play Ghana, away, in the final Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match, despite the Harambee Stars having already booked a place in the continental showpiece. The match will be played in March this year.
Also in line for the Harambee Stars is an African Nations Championships Qualifier against Burundi, set to be played on a date to be announced by CAF in due course. The tourney is reserved exclusively for players actively featuring in their respective national championships.
