Harambee Starlets Captain and former Thika Queens defender Dorcas Shikobe has recently inked a one-year deal with her new club Lakatamia FC of Cyprus.

She joins the bandwagon of Harambee Starlets players that have secured deals abroad including Esse Akida (Formerly with Besiktas, Turkey), Corazine Aquino (Formerly with Portuguese Atletico Ouriense), Annedy Kundu and  Ruth Ingosi (Cypriot Lakatamia FC), Mary Kinuthia, and Elizabeth Katungwa ( Swedish IF Djurgårdens), Cynthia Shilwatso (Spanish EDF Logrono) and Lilly Awuor (Germany Borussia Pankow).

Dorcas Shikobe, also known as “Doc”, is born and bred in Kenya with her favorite meal being a healthy meal of Ugali and Chicken.

Her football journey begins way back in high school, where she received her first call up to Harambee Starlets, the Kenya Women National team.

However, she was not retained in the final squad of the national team up until her third call-up in 2015 where she made her debut in their game against Uganda.

This served as her most memorable moment before it was topped in 2019 when they clinched the 2019 CECAFA Senior Women Championship title.

“Clinching the 2019 CECAFA Senior Women Championship Title marks the highlight of my career as it came right after I had just come from going through possibly the worst moment of my career, losing to Zambia in the Olympics qualifier. However, as a leader, I steered my team to make a comeback from that setback, and I must say, we really put in our all in that tournament, maintaining a clean sheet from the beginning right to the end of the tourney,” said Captain Shikobe.

Her role model is stellar Harambee Stars forward Michael Olunga because they share the same self-discipline and they never give up.

“My role model in football, has to be Michael Olunga, his passion and self-discipline is something we both share and we don’t let anything hinder our dreams,” said Harambee Starlets Captain Dorcas Shikobe.

Her parting shot to other aspiring women footballers is to understand that the journey will never be easy, there is a lot of self-sacrifices, self-discipline involved, but if they are really passionate, the fruits, in the end, will make the struggle worth the time.
