After successful sessions in Mombasa and Nairobi, the FIFA Pilot Project for women football development shifted base to Meru where FKF officially rolled out a Referees Course on Sunday, December 16, 2018.
This as Kisumu also warms up for a week-long coaching course, set to be officially rolled out on Monday, December 17, 2018.
The courses have attracted young women who have previously not been exposed to football education, as well as sports teachers and young coaches from across the country who work with young girls at the grassroots.
“FIFA is aiming at increasing participation of women in football and as a Federation, we have resorted to investing in the education of young women who will in turn impact even more young girls at the grassroots,” said FKF NEC Member for Eastern Nabea Muriithi, during the opening ceremony of the Referees Training at the Westwind Hotel in Meru.
A leadership workshop for Branch Women Representatives has also lined up early next year.
This series of courses is the first action plan of a pilot project where FIFA aims to impact over 60 million women by 2026, thus increasing participation of women in football.
Kenya is set to benefit from close to KES 100 Million in funding from the World Governing Body for the project.
FKF will besides the trainings also initiate U13/U15 leagues through partnerships with Primary Schools.
