Following successful rollout of the FIFA/FKF Pilot Project for Women football development in Mombasa, Football Kenya Federation has on Thursday, December 13, 2018, got underway the second phase of the project in Nairobi.
40 sports teachers and grass root coaches from the Coast region benefited from the first edition’s coaching course and 40 more have since been selected for the second edition, which will run for a week, before action shifts to Kisumu early next week.
“Football Kenya Federation has a long-term vision of involving more women in the game,” said FKF Deputy President Doris Petra, who graced the opening ceremony at the Utalii Hotel.
“Through funding from FIFA, we have decided to invest in young women through coaching education. Women representatives will also be taken through leadership workshops and we believe this is a boost to women football which is experiencing positive growth,” she added.
This series of coaching courses is the first action plan of a pilot project where FIFA aims to impact over 60 million women by 2026, thus increasing participation of women in football.
FKF will also initiate U13/U15 leagues through partnerships with Primary Schools.
