Football Kenya Federation, in partnership with leading telecommunications company Safaricom, today launched the fourth edition of the Chapa Dimba na Safaricom Youth Tournament at the Camp Toyoyo grounds in Nairobi.
The tournament, which is Kenya’s biggest grassroot competition, will see amateur teams parade players under the age of 19 years from the ward level to the national finals.
As has been in previous editions, participating clubs will benefit from prize monies and other in-kind donations from the tournament’s sponsor, Safaricom.
Speaking at the unveiling, FKF President Nick Mwendwa expressed his gratitude to Safaricom for coming on board yet again at a time when the game needs this support.
“No company has supported grassroots football as much as Safaricom has. For this we say Asante sana,” said the FKF President.
“This tournament has given an opportunity to many players to showcase their talent. As a Federation, we remain committed to exploring avenues of giving young players every opportunity to pursue their potential,” added Mr. Nick Mwendwa.
The tournament kicks off on June 3, 2023, in Western Region. Nyanza will then come after.
The national finals have in the meantime been scheduled on January 17, 2024.
