Tusker will be up against Kakamega Homeboyz in the final of the 2023 Mozzart Bet Cup. The match is set to kick off at 3 pm on Saturday, July 1, 2023, at the MISC Kasarani.

Prior to the final, AFC Leopards will face off with Ulinzi Stars in the third place playoff, which kicks off at 12 noon.

At stake in the final is a KES 2 Million Cash Prize as well as a prestigious chance to represent the country in the CAF Confederations Cup.

This will be Kakamega Homeboyz’s inaugural appearance at the Cup final: a chance to win their maiden silverware at top level.

Ahead of the match, Homeboyz coach Patrick Odhiambo stated the significance of a victory in the cup final.

“This trophy holds immense importance for us, as it presents a chance to create history. It will be the first trophy our team ever wins, and for many players, it will be their first-ever final appearance. Winning it would be a tremendous achievement,” stated coach Odhiambo.

“We have made adequate preparations for the match, identifying the weaknesses and strengths of our opponents and worked hard to address them,” he added.

On his part, Tusker coach Robert Matano acknowledged the importance of not underestimating their opponent, recognizing that every game presents unique challenges.

“Every game is different, and we approach each team with a fresh mindset. We cannot underestimate any team or assume that we are superior because this is a final,” warned coach Matano.

In the run up to the final, Kakamega Homeboyz eliminated fancied opponents in AFC Leopards in the semifinals, Kariobangi Sharks in the quarters and Gor Mahia in the Round of 16.

On the other hand, Tusker reached the final with a last gasp winner against Ulinzi Stars. They had earlier on beat KCB in the quarterfinals and Division One side Rainbow in the Round of 16.

The tournament’s golden boot will be contested over by three players. Tusker’s Eric Omondi and Stewart Omondi both at four goals and Bonface Muchiri at three goals.
