FKF Charity Shield 2023 pitting Gor Mahia against Kakamega Homeboyz is scheduled to take place on Saturday, 12 August, 2023 at MISC Kasarani Stadium at 3 pm .

Participation of the two sides was legitimized by virtue of Gor Mahia being 2022/23 FKF-PL champions and Kakamega Homeboyz as winners of the 2023 MozzartBet Cup.

This will be the first competitive match this season and each team will be looking to snag the first title up for grabs. Gor Mahia – Homeboyz have had several close battles before, with Homeboyz having the better record last season with two wins from their three encounters against each other.

Gor Mahia won their FKF-PL first leg 1-0 in Bukhungu while Homeboyz got the better of them in the return leg in Nairobi in a thrilling 3-2 encounter. Their tenacity nearly denied Gor Mahia the chance to lift the league title, leaving fans at the edge of their seats until the final day of the league.

In what was one of the season defining moments for Homeboyz, they eliminated Kogalo in Kakamega on their way to winning the MozzartBet Cup.

Gor’s coach Mckinstry speaking in an interview mentioned that he expects another close encounter against their rivals.

“We know they are a tough opponent in the charity shield and we expect a tough game. Obviously they got the better of us a couple of times last season but the games were closely contested. We are two closely matched teams and I think supporters should expect a tight game on Saturday, it’s going to be a really tough game.” opined Mckinstry.

The season opener will provide an opportunity for both teams to kickstart their season by lifting silverware.

For those wishing to watch the game in the stadium, tickets will go for 200 shillings and will be sold outside gate 2 and 12. It will also be aired LIVE on Football Kenya Federation’s Facebook page.

The FKF charity shield will serve as a curtain raiser to the season 2023/24 season that will commence on August 26, 2023 with eight action-packed matches lined up for the opening day.
