Vihiga Queens are off to a great start in the CAF Women’s Champions League CECAFA Zone Qualifiers after earning a 3-1 victory over Zanzibar’s New Generation FC in their first match on August 13, 2023 at Omondi Stadium, Uganda.

The legacy makers made a comeback after going down by a 20th minute goal by Amina Hemed. However, Babirye Winnie brought Vihiga back on level terms with a magnificent goal from the edge of the box in the 37th minute.

In the 58th minute, Ruth Khasokha long range effort saw Vihiga stretch their advantage taking the lead for the first time in the match. Vihiga continued to create goal scoring chances before Amina was brought down in box resulting to a penalty in the 81st minute. Martha Amunyolet stepped up and scored the third and final goal to seal victory.

Vihiga Queens have been drawn in group B with JKT Queens 🇹🇿, AS Kigali Women 🇷🇼, and Zanzibar’s New Generation FC.

They play AS Kigali Women next on August 16, 2023 at Omondi Stadium before rounding off their group matches against JKT Queens on August 19, 2023 at FTC, Njeru.

Vihiga Queens are seeking a second qualification into the third edition of the Women’s CAF Champions League to be hosted in Côte d’Ivoire.
