25 elite coaches are set to earn the CAF A License after completion of their five-day refresher course today, Friday August 18, 2023. This training builds upon their last training in 2014 in Machakos.
The course, which is the first in ten years, is the second highest certification offered by the Confederation of African Football (CAF). The CAF Pro License is the highest certification on the continent.
Among the coaches who were part of the course were Tusker FC coach Robert Matano, his Kenya Police counterpart Francis Baraza, former Harambee Stars coach Jacob Ghost Mulee, and former Ulinzi Stars coach Benjamin Nyangweso.
Former KCB coach Zedekiah Otieno, Posta Rangers coach John Kamau, Sammy Pamzo Omollo, Ken Kenyatta, Gilbert Selebwa, Twahir Muhiddin, and Yussuf Chippo were also part of the course.
“Capacity building of our coaches from the grassroots to the elite level is key in our football development agenda,” said FKF President Nick Mwendwa.
“Next season (2024/25), we shall require all premier league clubs to be managed by coaches who have attained our highest level of certification (CAF A License). We are doing this to ensure that our best players are handled by the most qualified personnel,” added the FKF president.
Another batch of 25 coaches is expected to embark on their CAF A course this October and this gradually increases the number of CAF A certified coaches to a total of 50 in our country.
