The Kenya Women National Team, Harambee Starlets, has been nominated for the 2019 Safaricom SOYA women sports team of the year award set to be held in Mombasa, on Friday, January 24, 2020.

Starlets will contest the award against Malkia Strikers (Volleyball), KPA Women’s Team (Basketball), Vihiga Queens (Football) and Kenya Lionesses (Rugby).

The team’s notable success in 2019 was lifting the CECAFA Women Championships title for the first time ever. Starlets also narrowly missed out on Olympics Qualification after falling to Zambia in the fourth qualification round.

Starlets was also nominated in the 2019 CAF Women National team of the year category award.

Coach David Ouma, meanwhile, was nominated in 2019 Safaricom SOYA Coach of the Year category while Gentrix Shikangwa was nominated in the 2019 Safaricom SOYA Most Promising Girl category.
